Pass It On

Pass It On

What can I do with my bridal gown after my wedding?

Preserve it! Save the memories. Always store a gown in a closet or under a bed in a place that remains a consistent temperature. Do not store your gown in an attic or basement. An attic gets very hot and very cold. This can destroy the fabric. I know many people who lost their wedding gown when their basement flooded including my mother and grandmother.

Share your memories! Lend it to your sister or close friend. Save it for your daughter. She can always change it a little to update it to her style.

Create a new memory. Create a christening gown or first communion dress for your daughter. Use sections of your bodice and train to design a mini dress similar to yours.

This year is a first for me. I altered a bridal gown about 12 years ago. She brought the gown to me and I made a Christening gown out of it. Both her daughters wore it. This year she brought it back and I am making a first communion dress that her daughters can share. Using the same fabric! This time her daughters are going to help design how they would like it to look. Can’t wait to see the finished gown!
